Despite a decent campaign of 20 goals and 48 points in 82 games with the New Jersey Devils, the 32-year-old Slovak forward is desperately seeking a new team.
Although some fans of the Canadiens believe he could be an interesting option for the club, especially given that he might not command a high salary, all signs point to his situation being resolved soon.
As noted by the reputable Elliotte Friedman in recent days, the Pittsburgh Penguins are reportedly very interested in adding the versatile forward to their team.
Well, it now appears that this rumor is indeed true, as the main player in question has just confirmed the information. Journalist Tomá Prokop recently interviewed Tatar, and when he mentioned the rumor about an imminent signing with the Penguins, Tatar smiled while mentioning that he's in discussions with several teams.
Clearly, for the sake of his contract negotiations, the player shouldn't shut the door to other teams, as he seeks to secure the best possible deal. However, all signs are pointing towards Pittsburgh as his likely next destination.
He could become an intriguing winger in the Penguins' top-nine, potentially playing on the second line alongside Evgeni Malkin and Rickard Rakell, and even adding excellent depth to the third unit with Jeff Carter and Noel Acciari.
This situation will be one to watch in the coming days.
