Georges Laraque's surprising statement about the value of Arber Xhekaj
For a player who was never drafted, neither in the OHL nor the NHL, Arber Xhekaj certainly has made a name for himself. He belongs to a special category of players, much like Martin St-Louis.
What's impressive about this defenseman is that, not only does he act as the enforcer for the team, but he's also a highly skilled hockey player. In fact, he's on the second wave of the power play.
Players like him, who can do it all on the ice, from dropping the gloves to scoring goals, are very rare in the NHL. Georges Laraque believes his value is significant in the market, even though he's not available for trade.
"Georges Laraque has recently defended his value, suggesting that he would be worth at least a first-round pick for any team looking for a player of his caliber." - Alexandre Desrosiers
As I was saying, Xhekaj is not on the market, and Kent Hughes knows he has quite a player on his hands. But it's incredible to go from an undrafted player that no one wanted to being worth at least a first-round pick. It speaks volumes about the young man's quality.
