A real blow to the face for Shane Wright
Since receiving exceptional player status at the age of 15, Shane Wright has been destined for a brilliant future. Unfortunately for him, things haven't gone as smoothly as expected.
Expected to be the first overall pick, Wright was ultimately selected 4th overall by the Seattle Kraken. This drop in the draft seemed to have a significant impact on him. While he would theoretically still be playing in junior, he was granted special permission to play in the AHL.
Recalled recently by the Kraken, it was said that Wright couldn't afford to miss his chance, that he needed to show the Kraken that he belongs in the NHL.
With no points in three games and a -1 plus/minus rating, it can be said that he missed his shot, and he has now been demoted to the American Hockey League. A wake-up call for a player who now understands that talent alone is not enough if the hard work is not put in.
