Canadiens' goaltending situation: Jake Allen's value is known, and Kent Hughes will likely have to lower his expectations
We know Kent Hughes' mindset, as he refuses to lose players for nothing. That's why there are still three goalies with the Canadiens.
With the recent signing of Samuel Montembeault, this situation cannot continue, and the GM will have to take action. However, his intentions are not yet clear, specifically whether he wants to keep Primeau or Allen.
Following Cayden Primeau's impressive 46-save performance on Saturday night, he has demonstrated to the organization that he can bounce back after a poor showing. The logical choice would be to trade Allen, but according to Elliotte Friedman, his value would be quite minimal.
Friedman explains his assessment of the goalie by stating that there are plenty of goalies like Jake Allen, and they are easy to find. According to him, Kent Hughes must be willing to lower his expectations.
"If the offer is there, you have to trade Jake Allen. And if you want to find another goalie afterward, you have the entire summer to do it." Elliotte Friedman
Therefore, Kent Hughes may have to accept trading his veteran goalie, possibly for very little in return.
