If there's one thing the Canadiens' GM has excelled at, it's maximizing the cap space he had to attract one-way transactions, like the one involving Sean Monahan, for example. This also includes three-team trades, like the one with the Penguins and the Sharks this summer.
That's exactly what Daniel would be trying to do right nowaccepting heavy but short contracts or simply taking on a portion of a player's salary in a third-party transaction to acquire prospects and/or draft picks.
Brière would be very active in participating in a transaction involving Conor Garland in Vancouver and Mathieu Joseph in Ottawa. We know that both teams are pressed against the salary cap, to the extent that the Sens haven't even signed Shane Pinto yet.
With young players like Matvei Michkov and other prospects and picks he could acquire in this kind of trade, there's no doubt that Daniel Brière would give his team an extra chance to rebuild on a solid foundation.
