Huge surprise involving Jeff Gorton and a player acquired by the Canadiens this summer
During the summer, Kent Hughes was very active, especially in his role as the GM of the Laval Rocket. One of the players acquired is former first-round pick Lias Andersson, who was selected by the Rangers in 2017.
At the time, Jeff Gorton was working with the Rangers, so the link between the two was easy to make during his acquisition. However, it appears that their relationship was not as smooth as one might think, and in fact, it had not always been good between them.
"Jeff is a good guy. Our relationship wasn't the best. It's a long story. Nothing special, it just didn't work out as both parties would have liked. I learned from that experience. I'm an adult now.
When I found out that Montreal was interested, everything happened so quickly, and I didn't even think for a second about "Gorts," who now works in Montreal. Then my agent told me, 'It looks like "Gorts" still likes you.' I was surprised!"
- Lias Andersson
So, it wasn't Jeff Gorton who pulled the strings on this signing; it was really Kent Hughes who signed a very good player for the Rocket. Moreover, Andersson is having a strong start to the season with nine points, including seven goals in nine games.
