Is it almost retirement time for Marc-André Fleury? The goalie made a major statement about his future in the NHL
In a very interesting interview alongside Alex Antonacci from RDS, Marc-André Fleury made a major statement about his future in the NHL. Indeed, the goalie, who will be celebrating his 39th birthday next November, may be in his final season in the NHL.
He is currently in the final year of his contract with the Minnesota Wild and he does not rule out the possibility of retiring after the 2023-2024 season. This is very difficult news to hear, given that he was greatly loved by Quebec hockey fans.
This could also be my last year. I'm going to try and enjoy it as much as possible. - Marc-André Fleury
During the interview, Marc-André Fleury took the time to congratulate his former teammates on the Golden Knights for their Stanley Cup conquest, still mentioning that he found it disappointing not to have been able to lift it with them.
I was happy for the players, happy for the guys I played with, especially the guys from the beginning. Our Quebecois as well; [Nicolas] Roy, [William] Carrier and [Jonathan] Marchessault. But on the other hand, it's disappointing to have missed that moment... To have started with the team and that, two years after I left, they won, it's a shame.
Marc-André Fleury is undoubtedly one of the best Quebecois goalies to have played in the NHL, having won three Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In 988 games in the NHL, the goalie from Sorel has compiled a remarkable record of 514 wins, 316 losses and 91 overtime losses. He also maintained an excellent save percentage of 0.913 and a goals against average of 2.59.
It will certainly be a huge page in history turning when Marc-André Fleury decides to hang up his pads for good!
