Jonathan Drouin receives a very clear message from his coach with the Avalanche
When we learned that Jonathan Drouin was joining his good friend Nathan MacKinnon in Colorado, we were all very happy for him. He didn't have an easy time in Montreal, and we genuinely wish it works out for him there.
Obviously, he seems happy with his new team. However, the honeymoon phase appears to be over. Drouin had several opportunities to shine on the first line with elite players, in addition to quality time on the power play.
Unfortunately, it takes him some time to get going, and his head coach has had enough. He's now on the third line, and Tomas Tatar has been promoted to the second line, playing alongside Artturi Lehkonen.
For Drouin, it's truly unfortunate, but that's where he belongs now. He hasn't become the dominant player that everyone hoped he would be, and expectations will have to be moderated when it comes to his production.
We're not giving up after just five games, but let's say that with only one point and ice time that's now approaching 10 minutes, he'll need to wake up very quickly if he hopes to return to the top.
