Last-minute turn of events regarding Matvei Michkov: The Russian prodigy will decide whether he wants to play with the Canadiens or not
The saga surrounding Russian phenomenon Matvei Michkov is far from over. While there were already several factors that could alter the decision of NHL general managers regarding his possible selection (his contract with SKA, the geopolitical situation in Russia), Elliotte Friedman has just revealed major information about the 18-year-old.
On his podcast 32 Thoughts, co-hosted with Jeff Marek, Elliotte Friedman mentioned that Michkov did not plan to discuss with all the NHL teams before the draft. Instead, he would decide which teams he would like to speak with. Knowing very well that the majority of scouts have been unable to see him play in person in recent years, the forward would try to discourage certain teams from selecting him by refusing to meet them.
Yikes! A statement that says a lot about the character of the young man who would like to use this strategy to decide his next destination.

Will Matvei Michkov agree to meet with the Tricolore's management? If not, we can fully understand Kent Hughes trying to move up a few spots in the draft or even selecting another player than the Russian when he takes the floor to announce the 5th overall pick.
Moreover, even if Matvei Michkov wishes to discuss with the Canadiens and would like to be drafted by the CH, this statement by Elliotte Friedman casts a huge doubt on the young man's personality. Does the Tricolore really want to draft a player with a character like this?
Kent Hughes could therefore have his hands tied in this case, as Michkov could decide for himself which team will choose him on June 28.
