Latest: Two former Canadiens players receive a real slap in the face by their new team
We have just learned some sad news concerning two former Habs players, Rem Pitlick and Xavier Ouellet.
Indeed, the Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that both players have been placed on waivers today and will therefore have to report to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL if they are not claimed by another team.
While it was expected that Xavier Ouellet would start the season in the AHL, having only played six games in the NHL since 2020-2021, it is rather surprising to see that Rem Pitlick has been cut so quickly from the Pens' training camp.
Acquired earlier this summer in a transaction involving Jeff Petry and Casey DeSmith, the 26-year-old forward could have been of great service on the team's fourth line.
In 46 games with the Canadiens in 2022-2023, the third-round pick of the Nashville Predators collected a total of six goals and nine assists. He had also been a frontline forward with the Laval Rocket, accumulating an impressive 22 points in just 18 games.
Clearly, Rem Pitlick will once again have to prove that he indeed belongs to the NHL.
