Logan Mailloux soon with the Canadiens: Shocking statement from Rocket's head coach, Jean-François Houle
With the training camp he had, many fans were hoping that Logan Mailloux would stay with the Canadiens. It was still a surprise to see him assigned to the Rocket before the team's closed retreat in Mont-Tremblant.
In Laval, things are not going well. While Joshua Roy stands out with 12 points, the team is not doing well, sitting at the bottom of the AHL with just one win. JF Houle refuses to place all the blame on the team's youth, but he admits that it will take some time to adapt.
"Nothing changes. These are young players trying to learn. We're also trying to find chemistry at the same time. We have several new faces, players with little experience. That's what having a young team in learning mode is all about. So yes, it's rock and roll, and it will be for a while."
- JF Houle
As for Logan Mailloux, his talent and dedication are undeniable. However, he still seems far from the NHL.
"He still has a lot of miles to go. Yes, he's a good player. Yes, he's projected to be a very good player. But I think it starts at the foundation, and he has a lot of things to improve, like all the other young players too." - JF Houle
So, we can forget about the young defenseman in Montreal for now. With a -9 rating and only two points, he realizes that professional hockey is a different game from junior hockey.
This doesn't mean he won't be good; it simply means that the NHL is not a development league, and he is currently learning to become a good defenseman.
