The Coyotes saga in Arizona continues, as a major last-minute development has just surfaced.

According to what journalist John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports reports, the team's owner, Alex Meruelo, has submitted a letter of intent to purchase a 41-acre plot of land in Mesa, in order to install a new arena for his team.

So, after failures in Phoenix and Scottdale, which are two significant places in Arizona, the organization is considering moving away from Phoenix, with the aim of settling in Mesa, a more distant city.

What an absolutely incomprehensible decision, when the team already struggles to draw crowds in the heart of big cities, the managers now believe that attendance will be present far from major urban centers?

It eerily reminds one of the Senators' situation, who moved away from the city to settle in Kanata. It was a very harmful decision for the organization. With the recent sale of the team, the new owners wish to get closer to Ottawa again, given the difficulties in attracting crowds in the suburbs.

However, we are talking about a city in Canada, which supports hockey. Now imagine this situation in Arizona, where the franchise struggles to fill a 5,000-seat university arena, and has never been profitable when playing in the heart of major cities.

Seriously, the stubbornness to keep this team in Arizona borders on delirium. It's hard to believe that the franchise managers truly believe in the long-term project of paying billions of dollars to build a new amphitheater and think that it will be a profitable decision in the long term.
