Martin St-Louis really lost his temper, and it had an immediate impact
Martin St-Louis is usually a very patient coach who always supports his players, but without ignoring their mistakes. He is capable of recognizing when his team has played poorly, but he tries to find the positive in every situation rather than focusing on the negative.
However, in Thursday night's game, Martin lost his temper for a rare occasion. He went to the locker room to speak to his players after the first period and had a direct conversation with them.
"According to some players, Martin St-Louis got really angry in the locker room between the first and second period about the turnovers," as reported.
"We were being stubborn," Martin explained in the press conference. "It's very rare to see him like that," added Montembeault.
Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, and Martin St-Louis himself talked about it but didn't provide details about what was said at that moment. Of course, it was done with respect, considering the coach's personality, and the players responded with a victory.
What stands out the most from this win is that the team's leaders stepped up, starting with the head coach, Martin St-Louis. Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Michael Matheson, and Sean Monahan showed their leadership. The only one who could have hurt the team was Brendan Gallagher with his late-game penalty, but his character is well-known, and there's no need to tell him.
