Shockwave: David Reinbacher soon to be traded by Kent Hughes and the Canadiens?
Le Canadien is building a very deep team at all positions, except for the forward lines. According to Brian Wilde, the team is lacking 55 goals in a season to be competitive, which translates to two top-6 forwards scoring more than 25 goals each.
The area where there is the most depth is undoubtedly on defense. No less than 12 defensemen could potentially line up with the Canadiens in the NHL next year, and Kent Hughes will have to make decisions.
According to Wilde, Reinbacher is among the players he would trade if the return is good.
"What is big for Reinbacher? An equivalent in another draft.
A team who picks top 10, at let's say 9, wants to give you 9 for David this June, take it.
The club needs goals. Must give to get. 9 pick this year is a top 6 F.
The balance gotta change. Team needs 55 goals." - Brian Wilde
I'm not against this idea, but the Canadiens drafted Reinbacher 5th overall in a very strong draft for forwards. I don't believe Kent Hughes would trade him for just the 9th pick to acquire a forward.
If Reinbacher is indeed sacrificed, it would likely be for an established and solid forward, nothing less.
