Surprising decision from Martin St-Louis: the Canadiens' coach provides explanations
As mentioned yesterday, Martin St-Louis made significant changes ahead of the three-game road trip to California.
His players delivered a miserable performance on Saturday night in Boston. He is trying everything to spark a flame because it's pretty extinguished right now.
For his players to play without emotion on a Saturday night against the Bruins while the dads are present, something must have been seriously amiss. Martin took his pliers and tightened things up in practice, and it stirred up quite a bit.
Against all expectations, Brendan Gallagher finds himself on the first line with Nick Suzuki. Limited to a less prominent role since the start of the season, Gally will have a very clear mission.
Martin St-Louis on putting Brendan Gallagher on the top line: "Gally will win battles, he'll do the dirty work - we haven't done that this year yet so we'll see what it looks like."

To be realistic, Gallagher is not the long-term solution. He's having a good start to the season, but it could be challenging for him against the best opposing players, especially on the road.
Let's give him a chance, though. St-Louis is trying to wake up his troops, and Gallagher's sustained effort could be a spark, as has so often been the case in the past.
