The Canadiens made a big move to replace Anthony Richard in the organization
Just after learning that forward Anthony Richard was leaving the Canadiens to join the Boston Bruins, Kent Hughes made another move by signing the enigmatic Lias Andersson.
Andersson has even been identified as Richard's replacement within the organization, expected to make a strong impact with the Laval Rocket and potentially fill in with the main team during the season.
During his recent appearance on the BPM Sports network, Pat Laprade raised an interesting point about the two players. Despite some fans wishing for Richard's return, Laprade suggested that the Canadiens made a better choice by adding a talented player like the Swedish forward Andersson.
"Would we have offered the same contract to Anthony Richard? Could we have signed Richard for the same terms he just got in Boston, or have Lias Andersson instead? I think we took the bet that Andersson has a higher ceiling in terms of talent and potential," said Pat Laprade.
The seventh overall pick in the 2017 draft spent the last season in the Los Angeles Kings' AHL affiliate, where he recorded 31 goals and 59 points in 67 games.
He is likely to be the forward who shuttles most frequently between Laval and Montreal in the upcoming season.
