Experiencing a scoring slump is normal for any player. However, when a player struggles to score, they are usually expected to contribute to the team in other ways.
Josh Anderson has been doing well in these circumstances. He creates opportunities on the ice, uses his physicality, and skates hard. For Caufield, this hasn't been the case.
And it's very concerning.
A video with explanations from Grant McCagg, a former scout for the Canadiens, clearly shows that Cole is currently hindering the team rather than helping during his scoring drought.
In the footage, you can see the number 22 getting rid of the puck to avoid a hit, twice in the same game. Is he still injured in the shoulder?
Moreover, he no longer shoots on reception when he receives a pass. This, too, could be indicative of an injury.
It's up to you to judge, but Caufield is not playing up to his capabilities right now, and it's genuinely worrying.
