Justin Barron has only played two games since the beginning of the year, but it's safe to say he's making the most of his opportunity. The young defenseman displayed patience, waiting for his turn, but now he seems determined not to leave the lineup.

With two goals in three games since Martin St-Louis called upon him, Barron is impressing not only with his production but also with the scoring chances he's creating. Furthermore, he's been on the ice for over 21 minutes and maintains a positive plus-minus, showing his responsibility in his own zone.

If he continues at this pace, another defenseman will have to make way when Kaiden Guhle and David Savard return.

When Kent Hughes made the acquisition, Renaud Lavoie had a conversation with Kristopher Letang, during which they discussed the CH's acquisition. Letang revealed the exact words of his captain.

"Sidney Crosby has encountered many talented players, so he can recognize them when he sees them. In his eyes, Justin Barron clearly belongs to that category. Crosby even believes that the Colorado Avalanche made a mistake by trading the promising defenseman to the Montreal Canadiens."

"Upon learning of the trade, Crosby said: 'I would never have done that if I were the Avalanche. This kid is a real hockey player. He's ready to play in the NHL, and he will become a good player.'"

- Kris Letang

We are starting to see what Crosby saw in him, as he is truly impressive. The sample size is small, Barron is still young, and he will make mistakes, but if he continues to progress in this manner, we may completely forget about Lehkonen in the years to come.
