It's no longer a surprise to anyone, but the chances of seeing Jeff Petry in a Canadiens uniform next season are extremely slim. Indeed, many observers, including the defenseman himself, have mentioned that a new transaction involving him could potentially occur before the start of the 2023-2024 season.

Knowing that the Penguins currently retain 25% of Jeff Petry's salary, and that the Tricolore could also absorb a significant portion of his contract, the defenseman could become a very interesting option for a team aiming to reach the playoffs this year. There's no doubt that at $2.34 million per season, the 35-year-old veteran would be a bargain for any team wishing to add an offensive-minded defenseman.

After all, despite a difficult season last year, Jeff Petry amassed an impressive total of 31 points in just 61 games. If the defenseman plays a full 82-game season, he could undoubtedly reach the 40-point plateau next year and be an excellent asset on the power play.

Furthermore, according to information revealed by Eric Engels during his appearance on the podcast "The Sick Podcast With Tony Marinaro", two teams could be highly interested in acquiring Jeff Petry.

A native of Michigan, he believes that the defenseman could be an important piece in the defense of the Detroit Red Wings, who are on the brink of completing their rebuilding process. Additionally, the former number 26 of the Tricolore could provide valuable assistance to the young defensemen of the Buffalo Sabres as the team will try to secure a playoff spot next season.

Do you think Kent Hughes should contact Kevyn Adams and Steve Yzerman to try to conclude a transaction involving the CH's newcomer?

Selected in the second round in the 2006 draft, Jeff Petry has amassed more than 350 points since arriving in the NHL, reaching the 40-point mark four times with the Montreal Canadiens. Now 35 years old, the defenseman has a valid contract for the next two seasons.

One thing is certain; this will be a very important issue to follow before the start of the 2023-2024 season.
