As Justin Poirier mentioned last week, the Canadiens have a lot of smaller players, which explains why he wasn't selected by Montreal.

Despite being very talented, he doesn't have the size the Canadiens are looking for, as they opted to select a 6'5" forward in the 5th round instead.

With the development camp currently taking place in Brossard, we're getting to know our new prospects, and Tyler Thorpe is among them.

«Tyler Thorpe, a HUGE right winger at 6'5" and 216 pounds who played with Vancouver in the WHL.

Mobile for his size. Has grown significantly in the past two years.

We understand that a 5th round pick is far from guaranteed a shot in the NHL one day, but if he develops well, the Canadiens will have secured a big asset.

He has good skills and a very interesting size, but some things to improve. He's a long-term project and we shouldn't expect him to join Montreal in the coming years.

"A towering winger with an NHL shot, flashes of high-end thinking, and defensive value..." - Via Eliteprospects

Thorpe is currently in Brossard, having flown in directly after being drafted to participate in the development camp. Talk about a determined young man!
