Indeed, Jacob Markstrom has been traded to the New Jersey Devils. At the time of writing, the details of the return are not yet known.
The Calgary Flames have good young goaltenders, making this move inevitable. On the other hand, the Devils had openly stated their willingness to sacrifice their 10th overall pick to acquire a number one goaltender.
Jake Allen will now be relegated to the backup role, which is a very bad sign for the Canadiens. A condition in the trade involves a second-round pick going to the Canadiens if Allen plays 40 games next season.
Unless there's a catastrophe or a serious injury to Markstrom, I don't see how this could happen unless Allen is included in the trade and moves to the Flames.
For Kent Hughes, this means a third-round pick for Jake Allen, which isn't too bad. With Allen having played 13 of the last 19 games for the Devils last season, hopes were high that he would reach those 40 games.
**Update**
The details of the return are now known. In my opinion, it's a steal for the Devils.
