CH: huge slap in the face of Lane Hutson in the NCAA
Lane Hutson has been the best defenseman in the NCAA this season, without a doubt. However, he has just received a solid slap in the face.
The Montreal Canadiens prospect is the only defenseman among 10 candidates to have been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, given to the league's most outstanding player.
The final three finalists have just been announced, and unfortunately, Hutson is not among them. Despite recording 50 points in 38 games as a defenseman, he has been overlooked.
The selected candidates are all forwards: Macklin Celebrini (64 points in 37 games), Jackson Blake (59 points in 39 games), and Cutter Gauthier (64 points in 39 games).
There are many comments on Hutson being left out of the top 3, but the fact that he plays alongside Macklin Celebrini, who is expected to win the honor, surely played a role.
