A stroke of unexpected luck for Martin St-Louis and the Canadiens
The Canadiens have received a very unexpected stroke of luck ahead of Thursday night's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Indeed, Martin St-Louis' squad won't have to face star goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy, nor even the organization's backup netminder.
Instead, it will be Matt Tomkins, the third-string goalie, who will be between the pipes at the Bell Centre.
"So it looks as though Matt Tomkins will start tomorrow in Montreal on second half of back to back. Asked #GoBolts coach Jon Cooper about Jonas Johansson's availability for tomorrow's game and he said he's out. Tomkins earned his first #NHL win at Bell Centre on Nov. 7." With two games in two nights, Tampa will try to give Vasilevskiy some rest, but it presents a real opportunity for the Canadiens to come out victorious.
Martin St-Louis now has the luxury of devising a very aggressive game plan focused on attacking the opposing net. Expect to see a lot of traffic in front of Tomkins throughout the evening.
