The renowned Sportsnet insider, Elliotte Friedman, has just revealed the price to pay for a trade involving Yaroslav Askarov.

In light of this information, we can imagine what the Canadiens might have to give up to get their hands on the young Russian goaltender.

In recent weeks, several analysts and observers have linked Askarov's name to Montreal.

We know very well that Kent Hughes is capable of making big moves on the trade market, as he has proven with Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, and now Patrik Laine.

Elliotte Friedman reveals the price to pay if Kent Hughes wants to acquire Yaroslav Askarov via trade.

Yes, Askarov is a very intriguing goalie, but at what cost?

On this topic, the Sportsnet insider recently disclosed new information, as also reported by Marco Normandin.

Let's remember that earlier this week, before the major trade involving Patrik Laine, another big piece of news dropped in the NHL trade market.

Yaroslav Askarov has reportedly officially requested a trade from the Nashville Predators. He intends to refuse to report to their American Hockey League team in 2024-2025 if he is seen as the third goalie on the

He is one of the top goaltending prospects in the NHL. The Nashville Predators didn't take long to react to this big news.

Transaction Yaroslav Askarov: The Predators have already made an announcement, and two teams are involved.

Let's return to Elliotte Friedman's comments about the price to acquire Askarov via trade. Just as was the case with Patrik Laine and the Blue Jackets, it seems that Yaroslav Askarov has played his last game in a Predators uniform. A return to Russia might even seem likely if he doesn't get the trade he desires, depending on his contractual clauses.

However, in the case of the Predators' goalie, the acquisition cost appears to be much higher.

"Everything indicates that Askarov's days in Nashville are currently numbered, but the Preds will be demanding and certainly won't trade their young goaltender at a discount. According to journalist and insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, GM Barry Trotz would require an established NHL player and a top prospect, preferably a forward or defenseman."

So don't be surprised if Kent Hughes is indeed interested but waits for the price to drop. An established NHL player could be someone like Nick Suzuki or Joel Armia. It's quite vague! We know that the Predators handed out big contracts in the free agency market with the signings of Steven Stamkos, Jonathan Marchessault, and Brady Skjei.

One thing is certain: if Kent Hughes wants to offload a contract like that of Josh Anderson or Christian Dvorak, he might have to retain part of the salary.

It will be challenging for him to manage the realities of the salary cap! Yaroslav Askarov earns only $925,000 in 2024-2025. A team looking to lower its salary cap and offload a hefty contract could be an option, but the player would need to contribute offensively. Good, cheap, and effective!

At 22 years old, Yaroslav Askarov was selected 11th overall (1st round) in the 2020 draft. He was chosen five spots ahead of a certain Kaiden Guhle.

A situation to watch!
