Indeed, he will start the campaign with the Canadiens and will stay there, according to his claims. Sooner or later, the organization needs to develop its young players, and Mailloux has been dominating in the AHL in his first season.
In his rookie season, Mailloux already has the highest number of goals by a defenseman in the Rocket's young history with 14. He has 43 points in 66 games, which is quite respectable.
He already had the talent, and these statistics are not surprising. However, Logan has learned to be a true professional. He went from being a young man who arrived at the last minute, sometimes even late, to being a diligent and punctual player in all aspects of being a professional.
Regarding Therrien's remarks, he believes that Logan will be in Montreal to stay, but not in a major role to start with. He will likely take over Johnathan Kovacevic's spot and play on the third pair.
In my opinion, this is a very good idea. Since it's David Savard's final year of contract in 2024-25, Mailloux can start with the big club while being well surrounded by quality veterans, including Savard.
We tend to underestimate him, but it's incredible the work he does with young players. I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually takes on the role of Stéphane Robidas, as the defense coach, when he retires.
