Jake Allen trade: Last-minute development, and it doesn't look good for the Canadiens' goaltender
Whether we like it or not, Kent Hughes now has less than 24 hours to trade Jake Allen, or else he will have to stay with the organization for the rest of the season.
Several teams are looking to improve their goaltending tandems, but not at any cost. Allen's contract is a problem, as he is paid $3.85 million for next year.
There were rumors of him going to New Jersey, but hopes have just been dashed. A similar goaltender in terms of statistics has just been placed on waivers, and he earns much less.
This is the second time this year that Antti Raanta has been placed on waivers, and he was not claimed last time. He is only making $1.5 million this year and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.
He is therefore more attractive to other teams in every way, and despite that, he may not be claimed. It speaks volumes about Allen's value.
