Jonathan Marchessault with the Canadiens: it becomes logical for Dach
The Canadiens are at the stage of improving their team to become more competitive. A prime candidate for the offense is certainly Jonathan Marchessault.
Indeed, the Golden Knights will have a hard time signing him, and it's increasingly evident that they may have to let him go.
Maxim Lapierre and Guillaume Latendresse have commented on the subject. For Guillaume, the next players must fit in with the existing core. Jonathan Marchessault seems like a perfectly logical choice.
"The Marchessault picture is becoming more and more interesting. If you say, 'We might be there.' What I don't want is for us to make Marc Bergevin's mistake and end up going for players like Mike Hoffman and such, saying they are established guys (...) We need to add guys we're 100% sure will fit into what we want to build, where we want to go, and who will get behind a guy like Suzuki and the young players. That's what I need. If I find a player who fits that type and can bring that, well, let's go, let's do it..." - Guillaume Latendresse
For Lapierre, adding Jo would help Kirby Dach. We must not forget that he will be the second-line center and will need wingers to produce.
"Sure, I really like Marchessault, absolutely. The playoffs he's had, the season he's having. I think he's more the prototype of a player, the goal is to surround Kirby Dach. You know, right now it's going well on the first line. Kirby Dach, who are his wingers? Will he play with Newhook? Will he play with a veteran we'll go get like a Marchessault?" - Maxim Lapierre
With a Conn Smythe and a season of over 40 goals in the last calendar year, the forward still has a lot of good hockey to offer. Kent Hughes must definitely consider this option.
