It's unfortunate, as he works hard, but his style of play simply doesn't fit with Martin St-Louis's system.
At $5.5 million for another three years, it's an expensive price for goals and points. His name is consistently included in trade rumors, and it's easy to see why.
The big issue is that Josh Anderson currently has negative value on the market. Just a year ago, he was worth at least a first-round pick according to many analysts.
Today, Kent Hughes might have to pay to move him, similar to how the Flames did with Sean Monahan, a trade that worked out well for the Canadiens.
Personally, I'm convinced that Kent Hughes would never do that. He will not waste valuable prospects just to move Anderson. He will keep him and let his contract run its course.
In a rebuilding phase, with space under the salary cap and with the contracts of Christian Dvorak, Joel Armia, and David Savard coming off in a year, the Canadiens' GM has no interest in paying to trade a player like Anderson.
It's surprising how quickly a player's value can change in the NHL. A bad season, and Josh Anderson has become a burden. I really hope, if he stays with the Canadiens, that he has an excellent season and proves his critics wrong!
