In today's NHL, young players are signing lucrative contracts immediately after their three-year entry-level deals. This was the case for Cole Caufield, who also saved nearly a year on his entry-level contract by joining at the end of a season.

This strategy can be beneficial, as it may be costly initially but pays off in the long run for some players. Nick Suzuki is a prime example, and so is Jack Hughes.

Juraj Slafkovsky's entry-level contract will expire next year, and Kent Hughes will have a decision to make. According to Jean-Charles Lajoie, he must absolutely sign him for 8 years.

"For me, the Canadiens have no choice but to sign him to an eight-year deal," he said. "What we've seen from him in the last two months shows that it's not a flash in the pan. He's a confident guy who, despite being 19 years old in the Montreal market, can handle the pressure."

"That's why, in my opinion, it's important to reward the success he's having right now. It will show everyone that hard work pays off." - Via TVA Sports

It's not a bad idea, especially since he would likely accept terms similar to his linemates Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.
