Kent Hughes confirms the news, and it's big for the Canadiens
The least we can say is that there's a lot of movement within the Canadiens organization, and Kent Hughes has just announced two very good pieces of news.
Indeed, there have been significant changes in the coaching staff, both in Montreal and Laval.
Firstly, Kelly Butchberger resigned from his position as assistant coach to JF Houle. Then, just a few days after signing a contract extension, JF Houle himself abruptly left.
Following this, Alex Burrows also departed from the Canadiens to take on new challenges within the organization.
The net result is that there are now vacancies for an assistant coach and a head coach in Laval, and an assistant coach in Montreal.
The Good News Announced by Kent Hughes
The Canadiens' general manager has announced some positive news, as two important members of the coaching staff will be returning.
"Eric Raymond served as the goaltending coach with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL from 2016-2017 to 2019-2020, and was also a goaltending development consultant with the New York Rangers during the same period. He notably coached goaltenders Igor Shesterkin and Alexandar Georgiev with the Wolf Pack during his time with the New York organization."
"Trevor Letowski has ten years of experience as a coach in Canadian junior hockey. He began his coaching career as an assistant with the Sarnia Sting in the OHL during the 2010-2011 season, where he also held the roles of head coach and associate coach until 2015. His journey then took him to the Windsor Spitfires as an associate coach for two seasons, winning the Memorial Cup in 2017. He took over as head coach of the Spitfires the following year, maintaining a record of 91-83-24 in 198 regular-season games over three years.
Internationally, Letowski represented Canada three times at the World Junior Hockey Championships in 2014, 2016, and 2018. In the role of assistant coach, he contributed to winning a bronze medal (2014) and a gold medal (2018) alongside Dominique Ducharme."
- Via the Montreal Canadiens This means that Letowski, who took over for Martin St-Louis when he left to take care of his son, will be back.
Eric Raymond will also return, having done excellent work with Samuel Montembeault and Cayden Primeau. He will also be responsible for training Jacob Fowler when he is ready to join the Canadiens.
It seems the hemorrhaging is under control, but Hughes still has work to do in finding replacements. He has hired Daniel Jacob as an assistant in Laval, leaving the head coach position for the Rocket and an assistant coach role for Martin St-Louis still to be filled.
