Since maturing and joining the Golden Knights, he's been a player with not only immense talent but also a strong team player, which wasn't necessarily the case during his time in Buffalo.
The change of scenery has clearly done him a lot of good. The Canadiens might have found a comparable player, and this isn't just about raw talent.
Michael Hage isn't a first overall pick and, barring surprises, he may not put up as many points as Eichel in the NHL, but his playing style resembles that of Eichel.
When comparing a prospect to an established player, we look at playing styles, and that's exactly the case here. Hage is a fluid skater with remarkable offensive skills, and unlike Eichel, he's very mature for his age with an extraordinary strength of character.
Indeed, Hage finished 4th in USHL scoring last year, coming off a significant injury and dealing with the tragic loss of his father over the summer.
What he achieved is remarkable, and it's surprising that he was available at the 21st pick. While all eyes have been on Ivan Demidov since June 28, we shouldn't forget the potential of Hage.
