At the draft, the GM was able to secure Ivan Demidov, who is quite a hockey player. And now, last season's standings allow him to speak at the 5th spot regarding players placed on waivers.
Currently, there are 59 players who have been placed on NHL waivers, including several very interesting names. Jakob Pelletier is one, but there's more. Raphaël Lavoie is also available in Edmonton.
Then, the brother of captain Nick Suzuki, Ryan, is also on waivers coming from Carolina. Kent Hughes therefore has a golden opportunity to bring the two brothers together in Montreal.
Ryan Suzuki doesn't have eye-popping stats in the AHL, and he may never be ready for the NHL, but you never know. If the organization wants to please its captain, it has the chance.
There are also 11 goaltenders available, including Matt Murray, and the Maple Leafs have no desire for him to be claimed. His contract is structured to avoid being put on waivers.
By sending Joshua Roy to Laval, Kent Hughes has kept a door open to claim one of these players. Let's remember that Oliver Kapanen can leave for Europe at any time, while Emil Heineman could also head to Laval.
We'll see in the coming hours what the GM's strategy will be! Let's hope he doesn't acquire a goaltender and thus start a three-way mess again.
