Kent Hughes loses a forward for nothing by letting young player Ty Smilanic go
With the number of prospects in the organization, it's impossible for Kent Hughes to keep everyone.
Some prospects surprise, while others disappoint and miss their chance.
This is the case for forward Ty Smilanic, who didn't impress the organization at all.
It's unfortunate for him, especially since he decided to leave his NCAA college career to start his professional career, but he clearly wasn't ready.
Kent Hughes had until August 15 to offer him a contract, but he officially passed on the opportunity.
Ty Smilanic was acquired in the trade that sent Ben Chiarot to Florida in 2022.
He played for the Trois-Rivières Lions last year, but even in the ECHL, things didn't go well for him, with only 7 points.
