The Canadiens have just announced that they have signed defenseman Gustav Lindstrom to a one-year two-way contract.

"MONTREAL - The general manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, announced Wednesday that the team has agreed to the terms of a one-year two-way contract with defenseman Gustav Lindström."

- Montreal Canadiens

Lindstrom provided good service to the Canadiens last year, but he ultimately left after being claimed off waivers in the NHL.

The Canadiens then immediately placed him on waivers to send him with the Laval Rocket. So he shouldn't pass through Montreal, but he is a good insurance policy.

This signing is both reassuring and concerning. We know that Lindstrom is solid at the AHL level and can fill in at the NHL. For the Rocket, he will be a very nice addition.

However, for Logan Mailloux, it's a question mark. This could indicate that the CH intends to recall him, or it could suggest that he may not be the first candidate to come up in case of need.

For Jayden Struble, this is nothing reassuring. We know he is injured, so the Canadiens signed a defenseman to help provide more depth. Hopefully, he won't be out too long.

In the end, it's also possible that this signing is solely to cover for the absence of David Reinbacher, who will miss about 5 months of activity.
