Major: Jeff Gorton on his departure from Montreal?
Since his hiring as Vice President of Hockey Operations in 2021, Jeff Gorton has done good things for the Canadiens, starting with the hires of Kent Hughes and Martin St-Louis.
Gorton comes with a wealth of experience and impressive contacts. He is, in fact, the architect behind the rebuilding of the New York Rangers.
Gorton back in a general manager role?
The Columbus Blue Jackets fired their GM Jarmo Kekalainen on Thursday, and they are already looking for his replacement. According to Darren Dreger, Gorton will certainly be an option for them.
Dreger on Insider Trading: «I believe #CBJ will at least ask permission of the Montreal Canadiens to speak with their executive VP in Jeff Gorton they love the experience of Gorton and there is clear history with Gorton and Davidson dating back to their days with the Rangers»
Another former Canadiens figure in the potential candidates is Mathieu Darche.
The real question to ask is whether Gorton has completed the work he had to do with the Canadiens. In my opinion, if he leaves now, he will have a sense of unfinished business.
He was hired for a specific purpose: to assist in the rebuilding of the Canadiens. However, there is still a lot of work to be done for the team to be competitive.
