Martin Necas derby: It's confirmed for Kent Hughes and the Canadiens
Kent Hughes is constantly working to improve his top 6 forwards, and when we look at the team's picture, it's clear that this is the priority.
This is really the next move Kent Hughes must make, whether through a trade, the draft, or the free agent market.
One name that keeps coming up in trade rumors is Martin Necas. The Hurricanes forward wants a fresh start, and the Canes want to offer it to him as they can't promise him a spot on the first line and the first power play unit.
According to Necas' father, it would be very surprising if his son is still playing in Carolina next year, which has further fueled the rumors.
Pierre LeBrun had already confirmed that Kent Hughes called his counterpart in Raleigh, and now it's David Pagnotta's turn.
The insider mentions that 6 teams are strongly competing to acquire him.
"There is a lot of interest in Necas. As I stated on NHL Network, at least a dozen teams have him on their radar.
Some clubs have already reached out [...] Calgary, Nashville, Seattle, Philadelphia, Montreal, and Vancouver are among the interested teams."
Kent Hughes is in the mix, but he has competition. It's far from guaranteed, especially since, according to the latest news, Jake Guentzel intends to test the free agent market.
Let's remember that the Canes would have the means to sign Necas if they lose Guentzel.
