Among the rumors of players linked to the Canadiens, there are, of course, Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras, but also Steven Stamkos, who could join Martin St-Louis and Vincent Lecavalier.

Negotiations between Julien Brisebois and him have not been very smooth, or even existent, and by his own admission, it has bothered the captain of the Bolts.
Moreover, the Lightning was already up against the salary cap and they added Ryan McDonagh, which makes things even more difficult for a contract extension.
In a turn of events, according to David Pagnotta, Stamkos will re-sign with the Lightning, just like Sam Reinhart with the Panthers.
"Only Sam Reinhart (94 points, 57 goals) and Steven Stamkos (81 points, 40 goals) scored more points than Jake Guentzel in 2023-24 among free agents, and many people in the National Hockey League expect them to re-sign with their current teams."

We know that Julien Brisebois, the GM of the Bolts, has more than one trick up his sleeve. I am eager to see how he plans to make his salary cap work with Stamkos extended.
One thing is certain, Stamkos is moving further and further away from Montreal.
When insiders start saying that a free agent is going to re-sign with their team, it is quite rare for the situation to change.
