Martin St-Louis offers a promotion to Oliver Kapanen
During Saturday night's game against the New York Islanders, Martin St-Louis shuffled his cards up front and young forward Oliver Kapanen got a nice promotion.
As reported by HabsOnRedidt's X account, the latter found himself on the second line with Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook replacing Joel Armia for part of the game.
Oliver Kapanen has replaced Joel Armia on the 2nd line with Alex Newhook and Kirby Dach for the time being.
Let's just say this line needed a bit of work because it hasn't been very productive since the start of the season. Dach and Newhook have only one point in six games so far.
Back to Kapanen, he was used for just over ten minutes against the Islanders and he even scored in the shootout.
Emil Heineman (10:38 minutes) and Oliver Kapanen (11:32 minutes), the only Habs players to score goals in the shootout, each had the two shortest ice times against the Islanders. A second-round pick of the Canadiens in the 2021 draft, Kapanen, who is the nephew of former NHL player Sami Kapanen, had a great training camp and has earned his place in the Canadiens' lineup.
It will be interesting to see if Martin St-Louis will use him again on the second line up front when the New York Rangers visit the Bell Centre on Tuesday night.
