The Hurricanes are constrained by the salary cap, so it's in their best interest to offer him a contract extension now or trade him before that date.
Otherwise, a hostile offer could come in and the team likely wouldn't be able to match it. It's understood that Kent Hughes wouldn't do that to avoid complicating business relations, but it remains a risk for the Canes.
On air with Mario Langlois, Stéphane Waite mentioned that Necas would be a great acquisition for Montreal and he wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice one of the three, meaning Mailloux, Hutson, or Reinbacher.
Mario Langlois obviously didn't agree, and neither do I.
Lane Hutson could become the next Quinn Hughes, and David Reinbacher the next Moritz Seider, with several sources even comparing him to Roman Josi.
As for Logan Mailloux, he is in my opinion the only one of the future top 4 defensemen who could be part of a major trade. Kaiden Guhle, Lane Hutson, and David Reinbacher will definitely stay.
It's certain that to receive, you have to pay, but Kent Hughes has mentioned numerous times that he wouldn't sacrifice the club's future to improve immediately.
So, it can be assumed that such a trade shouldn't happen, unless the GM judges that the future of the defense is secure. He has already contacted the Hurricanes to discuss Necas, so let's let him do his job and build a trade, if it really is still in his plans.
