Montreal Canadiens' troubles: David Savard and Michael Matheson take action
According to a TVA Sports article, defensemen David Savard and Michael Matheson held a team meeting and it is clear that losses like the ones against the Kraken and Rangers last week are unacceptable and that the team needs to improve its play overall.
It is unclear whether this team meeting was initiated by Kent Hughes or Martin St-Louis, but it is clear that something is wrong with the Canadiens, particularly on defense.
According to Michael Matheson, these two losses have affected everyone's pride.
"We had a lot of meetings and we looked at our game. After a game like that, you want to be able to respond."
"Everyone is competitive. A game like that is unacceptable. You have to respond, show that it bothers you and that you want things to change."
Same story for David Savard, who believes that such a meeting will be beneficial for the future.
"It's a very difficult league to play in. It takes time to get used to play against certain teams and certain players.
The more you see them, the more you have an idea of what they want to do. Everyone has this desire to improve so we will continue to work."
The Canadiens will play their next game tonight against the Washington Capitals and Martin St-Louis' men will try to get back on the winning track after an embarrassing loss to the Kraken last Tuesday.
