Montreal Canadiens: Two major absentees at training camp and it's over
The Montreal Canadiens are likely one of the few teams surrounded by such frenzy around a rookie camp or the main camp.
Indeed, there's a sense that fans are eager, leading to beautiful scenes in the metropolis as the bleu-blanc-rouge colors become more prevalent.
When the list of invited players for the camp was released, many were excited to see it. Unfortunately, two important names are missing, and their season is effectively over.
Tyler Thorpe and Owen Protz will only have briefly participated in the rookie camp before returning to their junior teams. It's a shame for them, but on the other hand, they received guidance on what to work on during the season.
"BROSSARD - The Montreal Canadiens announced Tuesday the participation of 59 players in their training camp. This will begin on Wednesday, September 18, at the CN Sports Complex in Brossard, where players will report in the morning for physical and medical exams. The camp will continue until Monday, October 7, in anticipation of the first game of the season, scheduled for Wednesday, October 9, against the Maple Leafs at the Bell Centre.
Of the 59 players, there are 35 forwards, 17 defensemen, and seven goaltenders. Forty-three of them have NHL contracts, while 12 are participating in the camp with AHL contracts. There are also three players invited through a professional tryout and one unsigned player."
- Montreal Canadiens These are two significant absentees, as Tyler Thorpe already stands at 6'4" and 209 lbs at 19 years old, while Owen Protz is 6'1" and 213 lbs at 18 years old. He is considered the most dangerous player on the ice due to his physicality.
For Tyler Thorpe, he might be the next Brendan Gallagher or Joshua Roy-a fifth-round pick making his way to the NHL.
