The Canadiens are in the midst of a rebuild, but there are many positive aspects to note, including the performance of Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield, who continue to improve.

While the team finished 28th overall for the second consecutive year, individual players have shown considerable progress. For the first time, Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky have joined Suzuki in a full 82-game season. They are all signed until at least 2030, indicating a long-term commitment to their development together.

Recently, rumors have emerged from Arber Xhekaj's press conference suggesting that the goal for this season is to make the playoffs. This might seem improbable, but it's what Xhekaj hinted at.

Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield echoed these sentiments in their first media appearances of the summer, saying they aim for a playoffs spot this year.

Suzuki's words reflect his honesty as captain. While he won't claim the goal is to lose or to finish mid-table, both players appeared in good spirits and confident.

Suzuki also demonstrated his leadership by acknowledging the importance of recent contracts for Slafkovsky, Kaiden Guhle, Arber Xhekaj, and Justin Barron. He emphasized that these signings are crucial for the team's future.

Personally, I don't believe the Canadiens will make the playoffs this year, but the players are indeed entering a phase of maturity where they could surprise many.
