He had big shoes to fill as Shea Weber's successor, and he's doing very well. In an era where the team can sometimes seem to be going nowhere, it's important to have a player to lean on.
Yet, Nick Suzuki doesn't ask for much. He is always present and doesn't complain about his situation. He deserves at least to have the same line mates, and that's the wish he made to Martin St-Louis.
From the beginning of training camp, Juraj Slafkovsky, Cole Caufield, and he have been paired together, and this trio has remained intact consistently. For Martin St-Louis, having a trio like that is a blessing.
After carrying the team on his shoulders and being willing to continue doing so, I personally believe that it's not too much to ask. The captain wants his line mates and strong chemistry between them.
The captain and his two wingers will certainly want to have record-breaking seasons and thus beat their respective marks. For Nick Suzuki, it's 77 points, while for Cole Caufield, it's 65 points, and for Juraj Slafkovsky, it's 50 points.
If they can stay healthy, it will certainly happen. We saw with Kirby Dach's injury last season or Patrik Laine's on Saturday night that it sometimes comes down to very little.
Nick Suzuki, for his part, has never missed a game since entering the NHL. In five seasons, he has played every game, and his points per game have always evolved with 41 (71 games), 41 (56 games), 61, 66, and 77 points in 82 games.
He is ranked 3rd in the NHL for the active streak of the most consecutive games played (373), behind Brent Burns (843) and Ryan Suter (453). However, both veterans are at the end of their careers.
