Seth Jarvis to Montreal: Kent Hughes' target might no longer be Martin Necas
For weeks, there has been talk of the possibility of seeing Martin Necas in Montreal, but the rumors have been pretty quiet for the past few days.
Indeed, Necas has agreed to go to salary arbitration, which automatically removes the possibility of him signing an offer sheet with another team.
Necas remains on the trade market, but he won't leave Carolina easily.
On the other hand, forward Seth Jarvis is also a restricted free agent, and he would fit perfectly with Kent Hughes' needs.
According to Sportsnet journalist Emily Sadler, Jarvis will have a significant salary increase and is still eligible for an offer sheet, which the Canadiens can afford to make.
"Seth Jarvis could sign an offer sheet, and not with just any team: with the Montreal Canadiens.
He will likely get a salary increase. Few teams have the resources to afford him, but among those who can, there's one with a blue, white, and red logo looking for a solid forward."
- Emily Sadler
Jarvis, 22, had a very nice season with 67 points, including 33 goals. His acquisition would be big news for the Canadiens, who are looking for exactly this type of player who can play in the top 6.
I'm not convinced that Kent Hughes would actually want to make an offer sheet, as this move would greatly lower his popularity in the NHL.
However, we know he has guts and always finds a way to surprise us.
