The Golden Knights made a wave of cuts today, and one forward is catching a lot of attention that Kent Hughes might be tempted to claim.
Grigori Denisenko is a former first-round pick, 15th overall in 2018. After scoring 56 points in 65 games in the AHL last year, he is going on waivers for the second year in a row during camp.
Kent Hughes is fifth in line to claim players off waivers since the Canadiens finished 28th in the overall standings last year.
Will the Canadiens' GM be tempted to claim the young forward? It would be a nice gift from the Golden Knights. Let's remember that they made a big move with the CH a few years ago, trading Nick Suzuki, Tomas Tatar, and a second-round pick for Max Pacioretty.
Personally, I don't believe Denisenko will interest Kent Hughes, simply because he is already struggling to make room for his own players and prospects.
Oliver Kapanen, Owen Beck, and even Joshua Roy are not guaranteed to play in the NHL this season. If Kent Hughes claims a forward, it would likely be viewed poorly internally unless he truly had no choice due to the quality of the player.
