The Panthers have the Stanley Cup taken away by Gary Bettman
The Panthers were crowned Stanley Cup champions on June 24th, with Gary Bettman presenting the famous trophy to them.
After losing in the finals last year and nearly being historically come back on by the Oilers, Aleksander Barkov and his team finally won the 7th and final game by a single goal.
With a sigh of relief and euphoria, the players celebrated their victory, but this was taken away by the NHL on Sunday.
Indeed, the Cup is currently in Montreal for a specific reason.
"According to NHL.com, Phil Pritchard, the keeper of the Cup, packed the Stanley Cup after a late-night celebration following the championship win on Sunday in Fort Lauderdale.
On Monday, Pritchard flew to Montreal where he handed the Stanley Cup to Louise St. Jacques, who will inscribe the names of 52 players and staff members onto the silverware.
According to Dave Stubbs' article on NHL.com, St. Jacques had to disassemble the trophy, repair 'damage, and polish the silver and nickel alloy.'" - George Richards
We can conclude that the celebration was so intense that some minor repairs were needed before inscribing the winners' names on the famous Cup.
Thus, the players will each get their turn to spend a day with the Stanley Cup, but this time, their names will be inscribed on it, immortalizing their victory.
