This morning, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens announced the signing of goaltender Connor Hughes.
This signing has gone relatively unnoticed, but Connor Hughes, a 27-year-old goaltender from London, Ontario, with an impressive frame of 6 feet 4 inches and 231 pounds, had quite a season in Switzerland.
He will evidently back up Jakub Dobes, who had a good season in Laval despite a slow start.
It will be interesting to see Connor Hughes and Kasimir Kaskisuo battle for the backup goalie position with the Rocket.
"No, Connor Hughes is not Kent's son. He is a 27-year-old goaltender from Ontario who also has Swiss nationality. He has been playing in Switzerland since 2017. Are they bringing him in to be Dobes' backup in Laval? I wonder if this will be another try like Demchenko." - Marc Antoine Godin
Hughes had an exceptional season, leading his team to the finals, and he deserves much credit.
"Stellar numbers in the Swiss NL this season, particularly in the playoffs helping lead Lausanne to the finals. Instantly improves the goaltending situation in Laval, in addition to the improvement of Jakub Dobe. Important item checked off the summer to-do list." - Arpon Basu
There have been many positive comments about him in the last few hours. He has a good frame and is coming off a very strong season.
Anthony Martineau also managed to get comments from one of his opponents last season.
"He was very good. You need to put traffic in front of him to beat him," one of his opponents from last year just told me.

With a goals-against average of 1.73 and a save percentage of 0.940, Hughes dominated the Swiss league, even continuing his excellent performance throughout the playoffs to the finals.
