It has now been over a year since Trevor Zegras' name has been linked to the Canadiens, with rumors of a trade between the Canadiens and the Ducks.

However, nothing has materialized, and the forward is still in California. The Canadiens turned their attention to Patrik Laine, but did Kent Hughes really try to acquire Trevor Zegras?

According to Renaud Lavoie, not only did Kent Hughes indeed try to get the Ducks forward, but he also made an attempt for Martin Necas, though the asking price for both players was too high.

"We were talking about who? We were talking a lot about Trevor Zegras and Martin Necas. It's funny that today, both are still with their respective teams and haven't been traded to the Montreal Canadiens or anywhere else.

It's not because there wasn't an attempt either, whether by the Canadiens or other teams [to acquire those players].»

- Renaud Lavoie, on BPM Sports

As the journalist mentioned, both forwards remain with their respective teams at the time of this discussion, clearly indicating that the price was too high. Kent Hughes didn't fall into the trap.

At this stage, with the acquisition of Patrik Laine and Ivan Demidov and Michael Hage coming in the next few years, I believe the dream of seeing Trevor Zegras arrive in Montreal is no longer relevant.
