The Maple Leafs are on track to break a mediocrity record that is 40 years old
The Toronto Maple Leafs hosted the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night. The game started late because the Wings had issues with their plane. They arrived at the airport only two hours before the game and hit the ice as soon as they got there.
Despite all the constraints, the Wings managed to win by a score of 4-2. Another loss for the Leafs even though they had the lead in the game.
It's the 12th time in 41 games, halfway through the season, that the team loses after taking the lead in a match. They are on track to lose 24 in such situations, and their team record is 23, set in 1983-84.
Things are really not going well in Toronto. It's reiterated, but their strategy of relying heavily on four forwards is not working. They can score goals and take the lead in games, but what's the point when they can't defend?
In short, if the Leafs persist with this mentality, they will continue to be a good regular-season team, no more.
