Alex Ovechkin has spent the last 18 years in Washington and has always played for the Capitals. He is undoubtedly the greatest player in their history.

However, all good things come to an end, and Alex knows it. If it's not retirement that will take him away from Washington, it may be a trade.

Indeed, the Capitals are at a crossroads. Evgeny Kuznetsov is gone, Anthony Mantha too. Nicklas Backstrom is injured, probably for the rest of his contract.

Ovechkin is one of the last veterans along with John Carlson, and he was really afraid of being traded at the last trade deadline.

"Ovechkin on if he was worried about having just 8 goals before the All-Star Break:

«Yeah, I was worried I would get traded, but thanks god I'm still here. No, to be honest with you, it was tough with the whole situation." - Alex Ovechkin

Ovy doesn't stop there; he's also afraid of being traded this summer. He understands very well that the team needs to make a turn, but he doesn't want it to happen this way.

He now has two seasons left on his contract, after which he will probably retire, unless there's a surprise. Personally, I don't think he will be traded, but you never know.

This situation has greatly affected him. It was only in the last 39 games of the season that he was able to get going and score 23 goals in 39 games. Before that, he had only 8.
